Does personal debt alarm you?
If a family is making good money, but is paying for mortgage, rentals, credit cards, car payments, insurance, school loans, etc...and then decides to find more things to spend $$ on based upon future "assumed" raises..
I would call that idiotic.

Our county has long operated on that idea: "If we only had more builders, industries, ...then we could collect more taxes and spend it on more stuff!"

If I was in the CCBC, I would demand a slash of every part of the budget by 10% the first year, and 5% every year after that until we pay for the basics in: Education, Police, Sanitation, Roads, Parks & environment.

The government is NOT a sow with 20 piglets all looking for a teat while it lays there, fattened by our taxes.

Jefferson faced a debt handed to him by J. Adams: After Gallatin worked over the books, he drastically slashed the military, and etc...thus bringing the debt back under control, and that philosphy is sorely lacking today.

The government's wedding to the economy is a new concept...and the strongest form of that wedding is fascism & communism & socialism. It should be HANDS OFF in a democracy/republic.
