| I second Vrai's comments. It's easy to forget that people go into politics to try to make a difference in their communities.
I thought about running for office that when I was in my 20s. But I realized that I didn't have the personality to be a politician. I valued my privacy and I would have been uncomfortable with reporters and opposing candidates digging into every nook and cranny of my life, even if there was no dirt to find. I was reclusive and I wouldn't have enjoyed speaking to strangers at political functions to ask them for their votes. Also, I would have been uncomfortable receiving criticism from opponents and strangers, since political races can often get personal. |
