I think in order to be successful at comedy, you have to be observational and not just some angry ranting person. Nobody ranted more than Sam Kinnison, who was hysterically funny, but you could also sense the smile behind his "rage". He was just kidding you to get a rise.
Women comedians are like that. If they're making wry comments about sexism that people can relate to, that's funny. But when they're just some angry beech on a stage, that's not funny at all.
