I think what she was saying is that immigrants are viewed as outsiders who came to this country after it had been established. Black slaves from Africa came over to this country with the same people who founded and developed it, so in her opinion they should be looked upon in the same way as a white guy from England who came over, founded a business, and raised a family in the colonies would be looked at.
