I see the sex offender list as being established to protect society from sexual predators who will try to have sex with you whether you consent or not. I just don’t see how someone’s sexual preference/frequency with other consenting adults would make them a predator.
Anywho, I'm not here to force my beliefs on anyone. I don't see the need for everyone to like or even "agree" with others' behaviors, but I think the school's main purpose was to stop violence against homosexuals. I honestly don't believe that any amount of talking, classes, or school assemblies preaching tolerance are going to change the situation; parents need to step in and teach their children to not bully and hurt other people even when they disagree with their lifestyle. Look how long schools have been trying to tell kids to accept different races, different body types, different religions-- there is still violence/bullying. Violence and bullying has little to do with the differences between the bully and the victim and much to do with what is wrong with the bully. |
Well said!
Everybody has the right to their own views, but every child should have the right to go to school without being beaten or harrassed.
However, if the parents aren't teaching their kids that this isn't okay, then society has little choice but to attempt to teach kids to tolerate those who are different from them. Hopefully, some of it might sink in.
(As the mom of a teen ager who dances to her own drum, I can tell you that high school is an incredibly frustrating experience. Some of the things that have been said to my kid would make a sailor blush.)
