This wasn't about smoking and non-smoking - it was about control. It would have been way too easy for those sensitive to smoke to just go to one of the many non-smoking restaurants. What they really want was to flex their muscles.
Now that the control freaks got their way, they will move onto something else that offends them, and lobby to get IT banned.
