When Obama wins, as Bru has promised me, the policy differences will be one of semantics. Bush's tax cuts became rather pointless when spending was pushed to new heights. It's kinda like the hamburger stand handing out all sorts of money back coupons while raising prices across the board.
Obama will raise taxes yet that may set the stage for much tougher fights in congress over spending proposals as Republicans suddenly find their conservative, small government roots and begin, as a whole, to fight for long lost, long set aside principles.
Conservatism gets people elected and makes good government. When we, the people, forget what got us there, we all pay the price. The bill has come due.
