You can't understand because you are too narrowly focused on the office of president. A president cannot act alone! They must work with the Congress, and that's why I support Obama. My bet is that Obama is going to be so far left that there will be no way for all those Dems who got elected from Republican districts in 2006 to support him. There's no way we get a Republican majority this year, but the Republicans and these conservative Democrats will be enough to thwart anything too liberal just as they have thwarted all the attempts to pull out of Iraq.
Now consider Liberal "Light" McCain. Sure, he won't press for sweeping new environmental regulations, gun control, or other liberal measures, but he will call for some. They'll be more towards the middle than what Obama would push for, but they'll be worse for us as the Dems we need in the Congress will be able to support them, which means they'll pass.
I know you just can't grasp the notion, but the more Obama acts like a crazy leftist the better it works for conservatives. McCain acting like a crazy centrist will doom us.
