In many cases, a civil suit will follow that the county (us tax payers) have to work through the court system with hearings, appeals, and possible a settlement out of court into the millions of $$$.
So,...although I appreciate a QUICK application of justice, sadly there is a lot of baggage that follows for months if not years ahead.
Will the officers err toward hesitation next time a situation comes up??? |
I know of a PG Officer who was involved in a fatal shooting back in January of this year, the one where a prison immate overpowered 2 guards at Laurel Hospital and carjacked several cars during the day and then led police on a chase into a cemetary in Suitland where he opened fire on several officers who all returned fire and killed the suspect.
This shooting was very justified, but its been over 4 months now and all those officers are still on admin leave, at least the one I know of is still out.
