although I am also guilty of the brake jam for tailgaters, I will agree that it may not be the most intellegent way to go.
On the other hand, your theory of not worrying about whats behind you and just being concerned with in front is a bit of an issue too, you are wrong.
when you have a tailgater behind you, the safest thing to do is to slow down and give yourself extra room in front to stop if need be. Since the tailgater is driving without a brain, it becomes your job to try and make it so your stopping gives them time to react.
now all that being said, didnt residentforce have a cup of coffee to share with her friend?
