I assume you both have never served in the military? Thats about the stupidest idea I've read in a long time.
Now, if only there were some way the average, law-abiding citizen could defend themselves from these thugs, some way that the thug couldn't tell which potential victim was capable of self-defense, wouldn't that give the thug pause? Some way...
