I have had that situation - but my family member did get themselves straightened out and is now a productive citizen... and this is after a lengthy rap sheet, in and out of rehabs, etc... He just realized one day what life was about and
he pulled himself up by his boot-straps.
We see this all the time and are a bit desensitized to it.
I do feel sorry for the family, but do not shed a tear for Sam. I have said it once and I will say it again; live like a thug, die like a thug...
