Obama has said that as president he would increase the number of troops and aid in Afghanistan, but when given the opportunity to vote in the Senate to do just that, he voted against the bill. What does he think we should believe? |
You know, if Proxmire had run for President under the banner of "we're going to end government waste", I'd believe him, even if I wouldn't vote for him - because that's what he DID in office. He made a name for himself by doing that. Nobody would have believed Nixon would cozy up to China, or Sadat would go to Israel. They made their fame by DOING exactly the opposite.
I'd have believed anyone running for President on their promises if they had demonstrated having accomplished it in the past. It's something to go on. I don't believe Obama can "unite" people of different political factions beyond persuading them to vote for him, because he hasn't shown he can do it yet. I don't believe him on a lot of levels. Even if McCain promises something totally hare-brained, I do believe he'll do it. Cause he DOES do hare-brained sometimes.
