Intelligent design IS religion. I've never, ever heard it advanced by anyone who didn't cite either opposing the teaching of evolution or who wasn't a religious leader on some level. The only reason why people are pushing it at all is they think it's somehow different from "creation science".

Teaching religion AS science is not what I want in schools.

The best way to illustrate this is the same way I ask the question in other political discussions - would you want someone whose religion vastly differs from your own, doing the same thing you're doing? Say, for example, Hindus, Buddhists or Muslims comprised the majority in this country, and as opposition to evolution, they wanted THEIR religious teaching taught as science.

I'm totally, completely ok with teaching different religions - as religion. It's ok to teach this is what Muslims believe, or this is what Hindus believe and so on, provided it avoids bias or judgmentalism. Religious freedom doesn't just mean you get to practice your religion - it means others get to practice theirs, too.
