Media Blog gets a scoop. Honest explanation or feeble excuse-making by NBC to cover its tracks after getting caught trying to suppress a politically “unhelpful” video? You make the call!NBC spokesman Marc Liepis tells National Review only this (annoying ALL CAPS in original):
“UPON REVIEW, WE CAUGHT CERTAIN ELEMENTS IN THE SKETCH THAT DIDN’T MEET OUR STANDARDS. WE TOOK IT DOWN AND MADE SOME MINOR CHANGES AND IT WILL BE BACK ONLINE SOON.”…
NBC sources say the objection has to do with the caption underneath the two mortgage-backed securities investors who made off with billions, which reads: “People who should be shot.” The same sources say the video will be edited to remove that language and returned to the website.
That was the caption that appeared during the segment with the Sandlers, lending credence to the boss’s theory that a few well-placed phone calls from their lawyers might have made SNL scramble. (According to NBC, per Deadline Hollywood, no legal threats were made.) Exit question: Isn’t this actually amazingly fortuitous “controversial” publicity to stoke interest in the sketch before it’s re-released?
