You're right, they should!!
And, they should celebrate their lives together, they should buy homes together, they should grow old and travel........... Whether their union is a "union", a "partnership", or a "rainbow kiss" should have no bearing on any of these things for their life together.
And, of course, all of this is true TODAY for them. No one denies them a single right. If they want to call their union a "marriage", then by all means they should.
But, that does NOT mean that the state should also call it that. Just because I call my SUV a "boat trailer" to try and get the cheaper tags for it doesn't mean the state should comply. Because I call my income "too small for taxes" does not mean the state should simply agree.
But, I'm free to do that, it's my right.
