I beat myself up because we don't have a fence and can't afford one right now. A fence would help but if the kids leave the gate open, he will run again. I would look into something like a chicken-wire mesh fence. The 24" tall stuff is very inexpensive. You can also go to Lowes and get tomato stakes for about $1-2 each. You can make him a little enclosure for hardly any money, and it'll be short enough for the humans to step over it.
