They had our husky mixes (that escaped and ran off a couple of years back) listed as brown and white so when we called they told us they weren't there.
We went and looked ourselves and lo and behold our black and white dogs were there afterall.
Don't give up hope. My moms yorkie ran off during a thunderstorm, 7 weeks later someone saw her signs and brought him back. Ya never know.
