I wouldn't answer them anyway, and I think that's the best political approach to take. It's a Catch-22 question to begin with. If he says "Yes" then that is political suicide. If he says "No" then all of these people who think they know the truth will call him a liar.
His sister left the company at the same time to run Woodburns with him, but no one ever called her a thief.
So, the FACT is that his parents are campaigning for him. The FACT is that he's been the COO of McKays for the last 10 years or so, and they're one of the biggest employers in the County. The fact that his sister has never been accused of anything. The fact that no charges were ever filed, or are pending. The facts answer the question that the rumor created.
If you reason through the facts, then the rumors become nothing more than jealousy being lipped around by a few people who continue to make themselves look silly. If the rumor had legs, St. Mary's Today would be walking it through their headlines.
Meanwhile Tommy is going to campaign himself right into local government, and be a pretty good commissioner for the people of St. Mary's.
