These two would be great for me if the max starting salary was about $10,000 higher. I think I'll stay where I'm at and retire with a full pension in 13 years. Heck, I'll only be 52 then and maybe I could take a job like these to pass the time until hubby can retire.

SHA BuildUp Program

The purpose of the On-the-Job Training program is to provide relevant technical and highway construction trades-related training, as well as workplace-life skills, for women, minorities, and socially and economically disadvantaged individuals within Maryland. Its goal is to increase employment potential to underserved groups by providing training and hands-on experience. It will also provide exposure to employers through temporary placements and job fairs, which may lead to permanent employment.

The initial focus of the program will be within the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan region (i.e. Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard, Prince Georges, Montgomery and Frederick Counties). It is anticipated that the program will expand to other geographic areas and other Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) agencies in future years.

If the reason for the extention is because not enough people applied, then that's just a damn shame. I fear more people want to stay on welfare then to actually get a job that they have to earn their paycheck for.

I don't know the reason, but I just learned of the program a few days ago. Perhaps the extension has more to do with getting the word out?

I hope!

IMHO, all those receiving welfare in Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard, Prince Georges, Montgomery and Frederick Counties and are capable of working, should be forced to apply. It offers OTJ Training. Everyone should be qualified.
