What if Michelle Obama walked 5 kids including a pregnant 17 year old on stage? Would racism change the perception?
What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said 'I do' to? What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife after she no longer measured up to his standards?
What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not only became addicted to pain killers, but acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
What if Obama were a member of the 'Keating 5'?
What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?
This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

Ya welcome.
Hey Sparx, this is a fun game. I wanna play.
What if someone used a popcicle stick between your lips and the AFL-CIO nipple you are attached to break suction, would you starve to death?
What if Big Labor stayed out of politics and just took care of fleecing and extorting businesses to the point they are on the brink of failure?
What if Jimmy Hoffa appeared and started singing to federal authorities about all the graft, bribery and illegal ties the Teamsters have with the mob?
What if the AFL-CIO had not driven labor costs so high companies had to outsource so now when I call Dell I speak to Hangi in New Dehli to order a laptop.
What if Big Labor didn't suck their members dry so that union membership has reached an all time low?

Certainly there are some people who oppose Obama and support McCain on the basis of their respective races. I suspect at least as many people oppose McCain and support Obama on the basis of their respective races. All that aside, THE VAST MAJORITY or people who are opposed to Obama are opposed to him for reasons having nothing to do with his race. Of that I am certain.
What if all of the things you suggested were true? It would make no difference whatsoever. Obama would still be a radical socialist who vows to surrender to our enemies. For those reasons I would oppose him just as vehemently.
Obama could be the whitest man on the planet and I'd still vote against him. He could be my brother and I'd still vote against him, because he is a bigger thief than McCain and promises to be the worst thief to ever be President.
I don't like thieves! What in the world does that have to do with race?

What the republican supporters in this race don't understand is that it's not about Obama it's about the failed policies of the republican party for the last eight years that are causing the poll numbers you see in the news. I didn't vote for Obama in the primaries but he is certainly better than at least four more years of the same failed policies with McCain.

Ok what about someone like me? An independent moderate.
I do not like Bush AT ALL. And Obama is just a Bush in liberal clothing....that meaning what I do not like about Bush is his conservative extremism and Obama is JUST that except liberal extremism.

Racism's effect
To the editor:
For the last three weeks, I've been registering voters at Wal-Mart in the afternoon. Voter registration is a non-partisan process. Of course, I am privately encouraged when people register as a member of my party, but I can only give non-denominational reasons when someone registering asks which party to put down.
The process of doing voter registration is an eye-opening experience. I received many expressions of thanks for what I was doing, both from people who were already registered and people who needed to register. I also saw total apathy and alienation, which was disheartening; it seems the very people who need to rise up and seize back the political process are the ones who have given up.
But an incident that stands out starkly is the one chillingly hideous expression of overt racism against the bi-racial Sen. Obama that my registration partner and I observed. It was made even more disturbing in that it was hissed at us by no less than the middle-aged wife of a self-proclaimed retired military officer. Mercifully, this pair were not local, but visiting from Arizona. The ugliness of her utterance left us shaken for the rest of the afternoon. My partner wondered, "I suppose she'd tell you that she's a good Christian. Do you suppose she'd get up in church and say that?"
That very evening, I received an email pondering the effect a reversal in circumstances might have on the respective campaigns, illuminating the effect of racism. I offer it for sincere consideration for my fellow voters. Delve into your own conscience as you read the following:
"How Racism works:
"What if Michelle Obama walked five kids, including a pregnant 17-year-old, on stage? Would racism change the perception? Do you suppose the family would be criticized as irresponsible and evidence of social decay?
"What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review and taught Constitutional Law for 12 years?
"What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
"What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said 'I do' to?
"What if Obama were the candidate who dumped his first wife after she was disfigured in an automobile accident while she faithfully waited for him to return?
"What if Sarah Palin were black and a gun enthusiast - would people be immediately afraid?
"What if Obama were a member of the 'Keating 5'?
"What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
"If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?
"This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference."
A thoughtful friend has suggested that the credence given the Internet rumor circulating that Obama is a camouflaged Muslim is in fact a fig-leaf for racism, perhaps even held subconsciously. (Think about it: as a newborn baby, did you have any say in what name your parents selected for you? Neither did Sen. Obama. He chose to work hard to bring honor to the name he had been given.)
(For further clarification on the "Muslim" rumor, or any other sensational email rumor, check out Urban Legends Reference Pages (http://www.snopes.com).)
Let each of us examine our attitudes regarding these contrasts and ask ourselves how much our perceptions are colored by residual racism.

What does that have to do with race? Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the inference of your original post that race somehow played a large role in the opposition to Obama and support of McCain?
People may differ ideologically, but that doesn't necessarily mean that one side is motivated by racial bias. The fact still remains that my dislike of Obama is based on him promising to be a thief. That sentiment is not affected in the least by his race. Furthermore, I'm pretty certain that most of his opposition is motivated by something other than his race.
Don't back away from the point you originally posited.

It has everything to do with race. There was still way too many racist people in this country this day and age. Watch and see someone say a racist statement against Obama. It just might be the old gezzer Mccain. Like when he said "that 1". Mccain is a racist simple and plain. He voted against MLK jr holiday. 11-4-2008 = means Mccain just got his a-- whipped. LMAO

Oh so now you have a magic 8 ball that allows you to see into everyone's head to see the real reason they wont support Obama and it is racism?
I think anyone who cries racism is the reason someone doesnt support Obama is a bigger racist than the ones who he is accusing.
I didn't support John Kerry. I didn't support Al Gore. I didn't support Clinton the second time. If you can look at that and see the thing they all have in common is they are liberal democrats, except for Clinton, and STILL say I am racist for not supporting him I will tell you I did vote for Alan Keyes and Mike Steele.
I have not nor have I ever uttered one thing about Obama's race and I have even given other republicans grief for comments they have made.
So given that I would have to say you are a mouth breathing race baiter

This is quite possibly the stupidest thing I've ever read on these forums. And I've heard some really, really stupid things here. This is a special kind of stupid. It's the kind of stupid that you run across once, maybe twice in a lifetime. It is cosmically stupid. It is so stupid, that it has collapsed on itself and created a singularity of stupid and now even light can't escape from it. It's a swirling vortex of stupid. It is colossally stupid. Ancient Romans would worship the above post as Stupidus Maximus, the God of Stupid. It's a hydrogen bomb stupid. It's so stupid it can dessimate entire cities. It has its own stupid zip code. Dictionaries across the country are, even now, being updated to provide the above post as the definition of stupid. And everyone here is now stupider for having read it.
And I, for one, will avoid this thread now, because I'm afraid of being contaminated with all the stupid that it contains.

Hmmm
What if Obama were white, would he get 95% of the black vote?
What if Obama were white, would he have beaten Hillary Clinton?
What if Obama were white, would his wife have been proud to be American?
What if Obama were white, would he have been welcome at Reverend Wright's Church?
What if Obama were white, would his Communist, Socialist, and Terrorist friends have killed any prospects of election to C in C.
What if Obama were white would Joe Biden have said he was clean and made good speeches?
If Obama was white and a Junior Senator from Michigan he would have remained a Junior Senator from Michigan and wouldnt even be in the running.
Trying to get racism out of this election is next to impossible, Obama's race is what got him here, not any great job he has done, for he has done none. He has little experience and no record of great achievement. He is a token placed before us by the Democrat party in hopes of having yellow dog Democrats, blacks, and liberals vote for him. Their hopes are that he can attract enough of these people to get elected.
Democrats had to decide which fork in the road to take, the road to the womens vote with Hillary or the road to the black vote with Obama, they decided on Obama, so race won out over gender, its as simple as that ,as neither Hillary or Obama were qualifed to be President.
For that matter Mccain doesnt have any business being the Republican candidate either, so it boils down to the Old white guy versus the young black guy.
Many will vote race, some will vote issues, some will vote against George Bush(even though he isnt running) a few will let their woodies vote McCain for picking for Sarah Palin.
Race is there and its going to stay, like it or not.

The more I read these types of posts, the more I'm starting to reconsider voting for John McCain.
It's not that I particularly like McCain.
And it's not that I'm so much against Obama.
It's that I can't freaking stand Obama supporters.
So if I end up voting for McCain after all, it won't be a vote *for* him, or even *against* Obama. It will be a vote against Obama supporters.

Wow you got a set.... Your whole orig post was a smear campaign disguised as questions? Please try again... Democrats have been smearing Palin since she came on the scene.
However I hear nothing from the democrats concerning surrender in Iraq (because I believe deep down they don't care about winning and they don't really care about our troops) and I hear nothing from them concerning their candidates association with known terrorist and extreme white hating radicals.
It's as if that info was not out there at all!
