I was just thinking about the lesser of two evils and how it always comes down to that. Even in local elections when we had Ehrlich for four years - did it do any good or did it just slow down the bad? Why does the bad always seem to keep winning?

Is it corruption?

Do we need lesser term limits so real people (not these lifer politicians) can govern for us?

Are people really too stupid to know what's good for them?

Why do our lawmakers keep circumventing the constitution?

Do the enslaved citizens really think their freebies come from the government?

Government just keeps on growing and becoming more intrusive into our lives. I really can't think of one good thing a politician has ever done for me. Can you?

Have you seen the video clip of the woman after attending an obama rally gushing about how she won't have to work to pay her mortgage, she won't have to work to fill her gas tank. If she supports him, he'll support her.

evidently there are some incredibly stupid people walking around

Is it corruption?

No, it's dumb uninformed voters.

No, because the new guys will be just as bad.

Are people really too stupid to know what's good for them?

Yes.

Why do our lawmakers keep circumventing the constitution?

Because they can.

Do the enslaved citizens really think their freebies come from the government?

Yes, but only the dumb ones.

Government just keeps on growing and becoming more intrusive into our lives. I really can't think of one good thing a politician has ever done for me. Can you?

Steny Hoyer pushed to keep Pax open and flooded us with new residents from other bases that were closed. That helped me start a business, or at least gave me the idea to do it.

People are stupid. The system has failed. There's a reason governments tend to have a lifespan of only a few hundred years.

We need a do-over. Wipe out every law made in the last hundred years and start over. Every day our politicians come up with more crap. When was the last time something was repealed? How many laws do we really need?

It is my opinion that this woman's video was taken the wrong way. I took it to mean she's struggling to support herself and her family now and when/if Obama wins, she won't have to worry as much. Her "tax breaks" will afford her more. I don't recall her saying "I won't have to work." Maybe I'll have to watch the video again to be sure though.

I I really can't think of one good thing a politician has ever done for me. Can you?

...this has always been the attraction of conservatism to me; that the government doesn't need to be nor should it be doing much for me or anyone else.

When you grow up in a society and you basically know how things are, what it takes to succeed, to pursue and have a life you are happy with, then, well, that is the greatest equality there can be and for that to be a stable, boring, consistent platform that doesn't include dramatic shifts and upheavals that suddenly leaves groups of people and individuals with a totally changed playing field should always been the primary goal of good governance.

When our society has a wrong, slavery, huge monopolies, environmental problems, wars, then those become large issues where government is the ONLY force that can play the effective role.

The doling out of favors is nothing new in government and will always be an underlying problem. The goal of no term limits is part of the stability equation; the powers than be in a given jurisdiction, country or state don't want upheaval, be it constant shifts from left to right OR right to left. They want a Steny or a Nancy or a Newt or whomever; they want one person to deal with, regardless of their politics and then they want it to stay as stable as possible.

Ehrlich was a solid, decent governor but he was also a threat to the existing powers that be in Maryland where those powers, long comfortable with Democratic rule, did not want the risk of losing advantage and influence with that power structure were it to be over thrown by a new GOP majority and all the openings that that would provide for new 'powers that be'.

Government is a very un-noble thing for the most part.

And let us hope PAX continues to expand!

Yes if it continues to expand our waters will continue to suffer from the populations and the pollutants, our water in the aquifers will dry up but we will get more strip malls and more traffic on already crowded roads. Our farmlands already dominishing will continue to be sold for housing and our school will continue to be overcrowded. We will need more police and fire protection costing us more money. Nothing like bringing the city to what used to be a country atmosphere. More come-downers to complain about how us poor country smibs dont have enough pools, parks or tennis courts. We also need more traffic lights on 235 and more congestion.

Dont get me wrong the base has brought many good things to St Mary's County, but a lot of what it has brought sucks. Growth isnt always the panacea many think it is. It doesnt lower taxes, it raises them as we have to pay for more services, more roads, more schools. Being crowded isnt so much fun either. The base has changed the county certainly, some for the good, a lot not so good.

Who was it that said... "And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country."

Hard to believe politics has changed so much. Now everyone wants to know what they will be getting for their vote. Makes me sad. And I'm not a Kennedy fan.
