Why should we save daylight, anyway?

When it gets dark at 5pm, by 7 or so my body thinks it wants to turn in for the night.

I'm not fond of having the early dark, but I'd MUCH rather that than have to get up in the dark every morning. I detest waking up when it's pitch black out.

I thought it was Eastern Standard time, but it sucks anyway. I hate it getting dark early. Can't get anything done.

I want my additional light at night not in the morning. Now by the time hubby gets home it's too dark to go out and play with the kids.

I do miss it being light later, but I get way more done in the house! Tonight I canned applesauce and made apple muffins! There's no way I'd do that if it was light out.

It stunk standing at the bus stop around 4:20pm and seeing it already getting dark. My youngest's soccer coach gave up on practices this week and next as they were normally held from 5-6pm in Wildewood (no lights). It's a U6 team anyways so practices were more about fun then anything. Whatever they learn just goes out the window at games and it's a free-for-all game.

To balance that, when I take the boy to the bus stop down the ragged remmants of the road (A section of Chancellors Run) in front of the house at 0630, sure is nice to be able to see the surface we are walking on.

They always cancel soccer practice after the time change.

Sunday wasn't too bad because I had to get up early anyway. Although we did stuff that evening that was more difficult because of the dark. Monday, everyone seemed to be on schedule. This morning, all but one child was up an hour early and that one is the one who is supposed to be up an hour earlier than the rest. :banghead:

This was my first experience with St Mary's soccer. We live in Calvert and our older son plays for CCPR but didn't start playing until he was 6 and Calvert has a league for that age group. My youngest played for CSA in the Spring and really wanted to play in the fall but couldn't because he's 5.

Actually the practices aren't cancelled per se. He moved them to 4:45pm but the kids don't get off the bus until almost 4:30 and we wouldn't get over there until 5pm anyways. He did shorten it too. Only 30 minutes instead of the hour so we'd be there for only 15 minutes before it got over with. The kids only have two games left so my son will be there for those.

Just cancel and be done with it. I doubt many of the kids will show up. My girl is on a U7 team. It doesn't matter, no amount of practice is going to teach them not to fight their own teammates for the ball. It's only those kids who have been playing for a while, practice at home, etc. that get it.

What's funny is that besides us, only one other kid lives in Calvert and us two are 99% of the time the first two at practice. The rest of the kids live in St Mary's and rarely show up until 10-15 minutes after practice starts. If they can't get there by 5, why in the world would he think they could get there 15 minutes earlier??

I agree about the younger kids playing soccer. It's always blob ball but it is fun to watch. My son can get right at the goal line and then trip over the ball. He is also known to be the one who steals the ball from his own teammates. I will tell him to stop and then the rest of the kids stand there because they don't know what to do with the ball. My son had the benefit of having an older brother who plays so he and maybe 2 other kids on his team really know what you're suppose to do and how the game is played.

I'm not sure about the U7 designation but my son played soccer for the first time this year in the 3 year old crew called the itty-bitty league down here. Chaos! I called it mob ball, it was hysterical. Every game had kids bawling when the other side scored. We had to loan the other team a kid once because so many of their members were crying they couldn't field 3 kids!

sounds strange but when it's 6am there (the time he gets up) it's only 10 pm here, before 6 am there was 11 pm here, so it's an hour earlier that I get to talk to him.
