what compels a person to drive in the right turn lane all the way from the light at Expedition/Exploration, to go to the Wawa. Traffic is not heavy or backed up, moving smoothly, no wait. Can someone who does this please explain the logic in interupting turning vehicles or barreling up behind them?

To get the last Buffalo Chicken wrap at the Wawa before someone else does?

Then it would be faster to use the regular lane, so nobody slows down to turn in front of you.

They have to get there before gas prices go up....maybe. Or they're just stupid.

Because they're so used to using that lane when there IS traffic that it's just second nature to them now. To them, that is a lane.

To them, that is a lane.I love it when they run that right hand lane on the northbound side of 235 in front of Kmart. They run right through the light in the turn lane to beat everyone to rt 4. And there's that big sign there that reads, Right lane must turn right. Duh. People can't read anymore.

You know, if only there were someone whose job it was to enforce the traffic laws, you know people charged with issuing citations to folks operating vehicles in an unsafe manner. They could run laps from Gate 1 up to San Souci all day, writing citations for improper lane use, and grab a few bonus ones for idiots coming out of Navy Federal and just going straight across to make a U-turn, instead of going south.
Sadly, the only folks we have spend most traffic enforcement time just citing speeders.

I love the guys that completely bypass the right turn lane and the long line of traffic for Rt 4N from 235N, pull up to the light in the right-most straight-thru lane, and turn right, cutting everyone else off that had been patiently waiting their turn! :jet:

I think you'll feel much better when you just lower your expectations.
For example:
Expect that people will go straight when they are in a turning lane and that they will turn when they're not. Expect that people will drive in a turning lane for miles. Expect that people will turn without using a signal and use a signal when they have no intention of turning. Expect that when signs and markings indicate one should merge, one will instead stop and when someone is to stop, he or she will instead yield.
If you just lower your expectations, as I have, then all these things will just become less bothersome to you. In fact, you may even start to be pleasantly surprised when someone does the right thing!

It has nothing to do with expectations. I'm curious what compels one to do it.

Which turn signal blinking? Left or right? You omitted that part.

They have decided that its a regular lane and not a turn lane...or they are "special" and its their right to drive in the turn lane. Entitlement is a mother f@$^@* !

Because the lane doesn't tell them where to turn. It just says 'right lane must turn right.' It doesn't say 'right lane must turn right at next entrance' and then the road runs out.

People shouldn't get in the turn lane for Wawa until right around Toyota. People get into the right turn lane way too early. Same thing happens at 235 leading up to Rte 4. They really shouldn't have these stupid right turn lanes. When I first saw them here I thought they were a great idea, but it turns out they're a disaster.
I don't see why it matters whether there is traffic or not. It's either acceptable or it's not.

If there was a cement curb or "triangle" they'd know when and where to turn though, huh?

Pretty much. If they just made the turn lanes shorter, there wouldn't be a problem of people riding them all the way up the road.

The signs say right turn only; it doesn't say when to turn. And, if YOU are going to turn right into WaWa, why do you wait until you're there to quickly move into the turn lane? HMMMMM?

Because they think it's a good idea and if they're turning, they're not abusing the turn lane

Simple. No fear of being caught and punished for their transgression. If the police started citing folks for doing it, they would stop.

So are the folks that think it's wrong to get into the turn lane early the same ones that think a "Merge - 1000 ft" sign means you should merge immediately?

How early is too early? I've seen folks ride that lane from down by Exploration up to Wawa? Is that legal? But much more common is that folks use that as a passing lane, and dive back into traffic after spending anywhere from 2 cars to a mile and a half in there.
