Obama's Frightening Insensitivity Following Shooting | NBC Chicago (http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/politics/A-Disconnected-President.html)

NBC.
Chicago.

President Obama didn't wait long after Tuesday's devastating elections to give critics another reason to question his leadership, but this time the subject matter was more grim than a pair of governorships.

After news broke out of the shooting at the Fort Hood Army post in Texas, the nation watched in horror as the toll of dead and injured climbed. The White House was notified immediately and by late afternoon, word went out that the president would speak about the incident prior to a previously scheduled appearance. At about 5 p.m., cable stations went to the president. The situation called for not only his trademark eloquence, but also grace and perspective.

But instead of a somber chief executive offering reassuring words and expressions of sympathy and compassion, viewers saw a wildly disconnected and inappropriately light president making introductory remarks. At the event, a Tribal Nations Conference hosted by the Department of Interior's Bureau of Indian affairs, the president thanked various staffers and offered a "shout-out" to "Dr. Joe Medicine Crow -- that Congressional Medal of Honor winner." Three minutes in, the president spoke about the shooting, in measured and appropriate terms. Who is advising him?

It seems rather obvious that who is advising him is no longer relevant. This is who he is.

I'm sure Rahm is appalled that the puppet strings got tangled.

It makes sense though. People of Obama's ilk are brought up from day 1 with complete disdain for the military. I have met a few ultra libs who were just told their whole life that the military was for dumb men who were bloodthirsty and ready to kill civilians. I have no doubt, knowing who Obama's mentors are..thay he has the exact same feeling. I am not surprised he has disdain for them....I am simply surprised someone who is so image conscious didn't at least try to fake it.

I agree with you on both points: that he, like his hippie cohorts, loathes the military, and he should have at least made an attempt to sound grave.

This might actually be his worst moment. And he's had plenty so far to choose from.

It's great to see this from an NBC station. I figured Immelt would have silenced this.

There may actually be some reporters who aren't scared of the White House.

I don't think this has a thing to do with Rahm or any of the Chicago crew. The one time we've seen Obama get animated and excited was during one of his health care lectures when he launched in to how poorly the Cambridge cops were doing their jobs, facts be damned.

This is WHO HE IS. Narcissists only acknowledge and respond to what is happening to them, what they are interested in. Some Muslim killing and shooting up a bunch of fellow troopers isn't anything to him. Giving shout outs and being hip and kewl is.

We've heard all the stories about how everyone who has met him along the way say all these glowing things about him. About him. About HIM.

Not his position on a given issue; his ability to 'listen'.

Not what he'd do to fix something; how HE looks.

Not what he's done; how he handles HIM SELF.

Narcissist. And, in my view, agreeing with Tammy Bruce, malignant.

B.O.'s speech was shocking but not surprising. President Emmanuel and Vice President Axelrod were probably busy elsewhere saving the world.

Maybe this will help you understand Barrack Hussein Obama.

I must've had my head in the sand on this one. For some reason I just didn't see this as that big of a deal. Now I'm thinking that maybe I didn't think it was a big deal because it's what I've come to expect from BO.

Either way, I don't think he could get a bigger backhoe.

I am not surprised he has disdain for them....I trust that they will remember, and his karma will find him one day - approximately 3 years from now.

I am simply surprised someone who is so image conscious didn't at least try to fake it.That is interesting, isn't it? Every time he goes OT (off teleprompter) he dawdles, fumbles and all too easily makes himself look like a jerk. As Larry has said, this is who he is, when you peel away the layers of manufactured smoothness.

I am still in awe over this. It's wrong on so many levels. Putting aside that he is the president and is expected to be calm and reassuring in the face of a crisis, how can anyone who has an ounce of dignity and genuineness hear about numerous people being slaughtered, and then go about joking around, and then suddenly shift gears and act somber and distressed? That is borderline sociopathic.

If there is anything more astonishing, it's that so many Liberals "don't get" the outrage. If anyone else had done what Oblahma did they might very well be upset, but because it was HIM, they can automatically overlook everything he said. Unreal.

Oh, and it's nice to see that the Won's protocol staff are on top of the fact that one does not "win" the Medal of Honor.

Nobama probably thinks it's the military's version of the Nobel Peace Prize.
