View Full Version : Five Terrible Cruelties of Liberalism

"You will find that I am kind. Unlike the cruel Leonidas, who demanded that you stand...I require only that you kneel." -- King Xerxes, 300Liberalism is an extraordinarily deceptive, ruinous and cruel ideology. That's because liberalism comes, arms wide open, whispering sweet words of compassion and pity, even as it forcefully slams down a boot upon the neck of people it's "helping." It's bad enough to see people's lives ruined by those who make no pretense about their intentions, but to see human beings destroyed by those who claim to have only their best interests at heart...well, let's just say it's a hell of a thing.

What liberalism does to minorities: Liberalism falsely convinces minorities in America that they are widely hated and despised for their skin color. How terrible it must be to spend your days seeing racial slights that don't exist, feeling despised by people who don't give you a second thought, and expecting that you will be treated unfairly by people, most of whom think no more of your skin color than they do the color of the carpet they're standing on.

Believing these lies leads to a sense of victimhood that liberalism offers to "fix" with more destructive solutions like Affirmative Action. How many white Americans have doubted the achievement of a black American because of Affirmative Action? How many black Americans have doubted their own worthiness because they thought they may have been given a helping hand because of their race? How many black college students who would have graduated with honors at UNC-Chapel Hill flunked out of Harvard because Affirmative Action got them into a college that was over their head? In the wildest dreams of the Ku Klux Klan, they could have never come up with an ideology as deviously destructive to minorities in America as liberalism.

One of the better explanations I've read regarding liberalism.

The crime, never mind the details, the real harm of socialism is that it coerces people into bondage.

It is one thing to be thrown into chains. It is quite another to put them on. Willingly.

Conan the Barbarian, great guy movie, the most compelling scene, Conan captured and tortured by Thulsa Doom, James Earl Jones, wants to know what so drove Conan to so doggedly pursue him and want to kill him and Conan explains that Doom and his crew killed his mother and father and destroyed his village.

Doom dismisses this with a wave of his hand and a blase noting of it must have been when he was young and foolish and thought steel was power.

Then, to make the point, Doom summons to a follower standing up on a cliff to come to him, to step into space and, she of course, falls to her death at Doom's feet, SPLAT!

Doom looks at a stunned Conan and explains "Now, THAT, boy, THAT is power!"

Modern liberalism, socialism, the coercion, now THAT, that is power.

They have a similar quote in the new version of "V" (which ironically, has been accused of subtly taking shots at the President) where one of the characters says the Visitors are arming themselves with the most powerful weapon known - devotion.

Glad to hear it.

I can never be sure about these people. Obviously, they, Bush, Clinton, Obama, are smart, educated, intelligent people with all sorts of access to and time spent with other smart, educated and intelligent folks.

Do they sit around in private gatherings and high five one another for successfully herding the sheep? Do they share the same views on taxes, entitlements and government and simply have different ideas on how to skin the same cat?

I mean, the public version of these people is all most of us will ever know. I tend to think they are no different than the kids who ran for student government in high school and, thus, should automatically be disqualified from running lemonade stands let alone the US.

Conan Rocks, supposedly theres a remake in the works
MongolTeacher: Conan! What is best in life?
Conan: To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

Conan: Crom... so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you! (Atheist at heart!)

I have to say that with so many faux pas occurring at the highest levels, I have even more grave doubts that these people actually have any more idea about how to run a country than anyone else does.

And I mean, dumb, avoidable things. Like - the "reset" button, last spring. Jeez. Hillary comments that their researchers worked hard to find the right word - when they could have asked *ANY* native Russian speaker to get it right in an instant, thus corroborating what I've always thought about these guys - their "researchers" are just smarter than someone who's done it their entire life.

Bowing to a Saudi king - and then to an Emperor. It's polite as a citizen, but a head of state does not do this, and SOMEONE should tell this guy that. Is anyone giving him information, or does he always "wing it"?

These things that come quickly to mind seem to illustrate a group of people who have no clearer idea of what they're doing than anyone else.

I have a version, on Laser Disc (shaddup) that includes the directors cuts in the movie itself (not as seperate media). Wasnt much, mainly Conan talking about his memories of his father, but the big end battle is bigger, longer and bloodier (hammer guy doesnt die right away)

See that doesnt make any sense. I dont know for sure, but typically movies take a while to write, create, shoot, edit and produce. Based on that, I would think any shots taken at a President would have been directed at President Bush, since he was the one in office when the movie was developed.

Part of the problem is the simple inability or unwillingness of these people to look at a reporter and say "So what?" when something irrelevant goes awry.
Obviously, there are 'old hands' that know the ropes and used to be there for each new pol to say "Here's this protocol, here's that one, tried, true, it's how it's done."

So, everyone is a paranoid psychotic who MUST have all THEIR own people for EVERYTHING and we lose that institutional memory, skill and competence.
The primary qualification is total loyalty, not talent or ability.

I fault the Clinton's for this. They're the ones that brought their own personal brand of paranoia to the national stage. And for good reason; they're so dirty on so many things.

I loved that movie, and the themes from that movie, and its inferior sequel always run through my head. These movies were (more or less) Arnold's big-screen *DEBUT*, even though he was fairly well known as a bodybuilder at the time, and had appeared in minor movies.

However ---

Once you've read Howard's books, you'll never be able to see them the same again. Until I read the books, I always thought of Conan as the Hulk with a sword - a brutish oaf whose single gift was his raw strength, but who relied on smarter, cleverer friends to get him through. The books reveal a completely different person, one who is just as likely to outsmart his opponents as he is to defeat them one on one. He's not the Hulk with a sword - he's Batman on steroids.

The parts that are objected to aren't directed at a presidential figure - they're mostly because these aliens have arrived, will change everything, bring peace, health care and energy independence, but they don't tolerate any criticism at all, and those that do are regarded as crazy lunatics.

Of course, you and I both know, the visitors are here to EAT us, but their devoted followers would just excuse that anyway.

Anyway, it got big criticism from the left after the pilot aired, just as "24" still has its critics on the left who say it advances a right-wing view of the world.
