Injured bald eagle

Rescued the first fall eagle Friday.
Was found over in Charles County and had been down at least 36+ hours.
Transported it to Wildlife Rescue where it was examined and treated for shock, pain and dehydration.
Here he is (6.5 pound male) resting as best as possible.
He either has a fractrued pelvis or is suffereing from lead poisoning.
He will be examined by a wildlife vet Saturday.

He is over 5 years old
I hope he makes it.

He is in a childs soft sided play pen.
He can not fly out and the soft sides protect his feathers and the open top allows for treatments by the staff.
Is is covered all other times.
Dark space means night time and bird will rest.

The way he is sitting, on his butt with his legs out in front of him, is not normal and indicative of trauma to the pelvis or a neurologial issue, which along with his abnormal green poop, indicates lead poisioning.

Both are treatable at this point.
IF he is able to be rehabbed, the goal is to release him back in Charles County.
:)

Time, xrays, blood work will tell the staff what is next.

Hope he pulls thru!

I love Bald Eagles, as both our national bird and the magnificent creatures they are. See them every so often soaring over and they certainly give you a ping in heart.

Oh no, I do not have him!!

I drove him upto Wildlife Rescue last night and got home after midnight..

We do not have Eagle vets here in SoMd.
No do any of us have the huge facilities needed to rehab an eagle in a huge flight cage!

When he is better, he will be released back in Charles County.
He has a mate somewhere...who is missing him. (maybe) hahaha


I should have an update later today/ or tomorrow, when he and 2 other birds come back form the vet.....

Sure we do. Dr. Hocking. He sees them all the time. :yay:

Sad to report that the eagle was euthanized due to spine seperation.

:-(

But our other 3 eagles are cleared to be released.
YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!
