Pledge of Allegiance

Federal appeals court rules Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional because of words 'under God.'
What do you think about this and why?

Well I guess I will go first.
I think that it is absolutely crazy. Are county allows these people to come over here and then they think that they can change things. Just because it has God in it. Well if you don't like it then go back to were in the hell you came from. It states very clearly, "One nation under God." It doesn't state one country or one God. It pertain to whatever you believe in and where ever you came from.

I agree with you.

I could not belive that one man could change such a historic item such as this. We have no right to alter something that was fought for so hard and created out of the love and victory of our freedom.
That was what our country was built on. We can not alter history to fit everyones single needs. If he and his daughter had such a problem with the pledge then deal with it. That family is living in our great country with the liberties that pledge stands for.
Do they expect to change everything that they have a disagreement to? How dare they and how dare our government to abide by this.

EXACTLY!!!!! Thank You. And I dont think it is fair one bit. Like another person, I think it was Bch, who said, society caters to those who cry and whine, but the majority, they would never cater too! Its sad, very very sad!

SOMEONE FINALLY SAID IT! Hip Hip Hooray!! Finally, someone has said what I think has been on every American's mind! This is an editorial written by an American citizen, published in a local newspaper. "IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT!!" I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture, here in the USA. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely comprised of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand.

This idea of America, being a multicultural community, has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!
ENGLISH.

"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, of Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is and always will be part of our culture.

If the Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. Remember, "Delta is ready when you are and they can have you there by nightfall".

This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But, once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

If you agree with this message, pass it on. If you don't agree, pass it on anyway. This
is AMERICA, after all.

Never have I encountered such drivel in a public forum. You all seem to think that this nation is the only civilized nation in the world. You could not be more wrong. One of you wrote that we are a "multicultural society," but then shamed us all by alluding the ill-conceived notion that we possess sovereignty over all other nations. No wonder people all over the world are burning the flag, and it is their right. You all may as well stand on the corner and pass out gasoline since you only incite intense hatred with these notions of supremecy.
Most importantly, less than half the schools in the nation have ever forced children to recite that pledge. Also, the original pledge, written in 1892, did not include "to the United States of America" or "under God." The latter phrase was added just 48 years ago in 1954 by President Eisenhower. So much for it being a "historic item." Eisenhower's motive was to promote nationalism, which in the '50s, and as evidenced by your comments in 2002 as well, meant segregation on a national level. You all really should read more, and though it may be a stretch, try thinking critically as well.
The original pledge as written by socialist Baptist minister, Francis Bellamy in 1892:
"I pledge allegiance to my flag and the Republic for which it stands--one nation indivisible--with liberty and justice for all."

Mercury, if you 've never before encountered such "drivel", why are you here? Since everything on here seems to cause you consternation, why don't you go somewhere else?

Is this your attempt at a witty retort? I'm afraid you failed miserably. The "agree with me or get out of the country" idea is radically illogical even for one as obviously intellectually challenged as you.
Also, so that you know, I was referring only to the comments encountered in this forum, not the whole country. Unlike you, I can hold an opinion without the need to alienate those who diagree with me.

Merc, I think I must have miscommunicated with you. I wasn't trying to kick you out or anything - merely asking a question. You came on here telling us all how "intellectually challenged" we are and how stupid the things we talk about are. Why are you here if it makes you so unhappy?

Unlike you, I can hold an opinion without the need to alienate those who diagree with me.
It would appear that you cannot...name-calling typically alienates people. That's all you've done. This was even before we had a chance to either agree or disagree with you.

Geez, you're up to what now - *4* posts? And ALL of them are insulting others, and pissing them off. Sounds like you don't have a *clue* on how NOT to alienate others.

Enjoying life!
Merc,

I have to apologize for all my forum mates' "drivel". They
don't know how to be any other way. Which brings up another thing. I think you joined the wrong forum today, that's why your having so much trouble already.

Here, try this one:

You should feel more at home there.

Take care!

Hey Merc.... maybe you and "dingle" should meet up, have a tofu (sp?) burger, some chai, and talk about how how aweful this country is, while at the same time, enjoy the freedoms that so many have died for to give you. Oh, and discuss how oppressed Iraq is and how America is just a big bully. Sounds like a great time to me:rolleyes:. Personally, I rather repeatedly slam my mule in a car door.
