My Dad has been through all kinds of things, including surgeries, to try to cure his snoring/apnea. He had MAJOR problems after the surgery and it didn't help at all. The thing that worked miracles for him was getting a sleep study done and then getting a CPAP machine. It is very easy to use and get used to, very quiet, portable, and he doesn't snore AT ALL when using it and he says he is much more rested and has a ton more energy during the day. He has also lost some weight since he started using the thing, without trying.

I have bad apnea.

Have him go to his regular doctor, and they'll set up something - probably at Civista - for him to get a Sleep Study done (that's where I had mine done). They'll determine the severity of his apnea and if it's bad enough they'll get him a CPap or a BiPap machine.

Which, I might add, is device built by God Himself, intended to provide little nightly slices of heaven for one and all.

He just goes to a walk in clinic for care and wanted him to see a specialist if possible.

Even they should be able to refer him to one.

OR try this RADICAL IDEA...

Look in the phone book under "Physicians" and then the sub-heading "Sleep Disorders"

what does a CPAP machine do?

A CPAP device delivers a constant air pressure to a patient's airway to hold it open (keep it from collapsing during sleep) the pressure settings are arrived at by analyzing the results of the sleep study. This study is necessary so as to arrive at the correct pressure setting. To little pressure and it will not help the patient and to high a setting could cause untold problems. The device is basically an airway splint....Kiran Mheta (sp) is a specialits in this area and has an excellent track record. Civista is a great place for the study. You will be amazed at the difference using this device can make...I have been on one for almost 10 years now and can not even think of doing without it, I have also worked in this field for many years and can atest to the effectiveness of this treatment. Apnea is not a joking matter, left untreated it can lead to many problems..ie: falling asleep at the wheel of a car, stroke, heartattack, high blood pressure, just to mention a few. Please follow through on this as it can become a matter of life and death.:howdy:
PS for more information on apnea go to Sleepnet.com Homepage great info there!

Been using a CPAP machine for over 5 years.
It has made me and my wife much more happy in the morning as we are both MUCH more rested. My primary Dr. gave a perscription for a sleep study and went and had it done at the Bean center in Hollywood.

My Sleep Study was done over at St. Mary's Hospital. The tech. told me afterwards " You wake up a lot!". Well, that would be why I'm here! Now write that down, please! Thank you!
