Through the joint efforts of Charles County Animal Control, the Charles County Humane Society (CCHS), and the Charles County Department of Health, a free rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets 3 months of age and older will be held at the Indian Head Pavilion located on the Village Green in Indian Head, Maryland, on Sunday, April 13, 2008, from 2-4 p.m.

In addition, the CCHS will be selling Charles County dog licenses.

All pets must be either leashed or in carriers in order to receive the free rabies vaccination.

Rabies is a fatal disease that has existed in the County's wildlife population since the mid 1970s and is still prevalent. Many pets and other domestic animals come into direct contact with wild mammals on a regular basis. In 2007 there were 30 confirmed cases of rabies in Charles County.

Maryland and Charles County laws require that all dogs, cats, and ferrets over 4 months old be vaccinated against rabies. "Keeping your pet's rabies vaccinations current will keep your pet safe from getting and transmitting this deadly disease," said C. Edward Tucker, Chief of Charles County Animal Control Services.
