I'm trying to color in a black & white .gif image. No matter what I try, any color I choose to paint with shows up as gray. Does anyone know how to fix this?

The GIF you are trying to color probably has a bit depth of 2, which pretty much means it's grey scale. With paint, you won't be able to add color and you won't be able to increase the bit depth. You'll need a more sophisticated imaging program.
