Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative urges customers to stay away from downed power lines and from trees lying on power lines.
Although downed lines may look dead, they could be energized. Never touch downed power lines or attempt to remove trees from power lines. Contact with live lines may result in serious injury or death. Also, if you attempt to remove a tree from a line, this could damage the lines and poles and leave other customers without power. Please let qualified SMECO crews handle the clearing and repair work.
If you spot any downed power lines or trees on power lines, please call SMECO’s Outage Hotline immediately at 1-877-747-6326 and remain on the line for assistance, or call 911.
