Mazda RX-8

First off, why is there no auto forum? Hrmm. That said, does ANYBODY own a RX-8? I'm almost the owner of a "winning blue" 2004 Mazda RX-8, just 20,000,000 more forms to fill out and it'll be mine! I'm worried though, with all the horror stories of the RX-7, that the RX-8 will be just as crappy...
So does anyone own one? Any input? It'll be an automatic, because yes, I am a wuss...

Heck, there isn't even a porn forum and look how much traffic we get.

I've heard of a couple recall problems on the new RX-8's already. First, there is about 10% less hp than what was originally posted. I believe it was 247hp & it's only dyno'ing at about 230hp.
Second, there have been claims about coolant leaks. Make sure you're positive you want this car just yet. Might want to wait until MY2005 to be positive.

For what it's worth...
Never had the mazda RX-# but I did own a Mazda 323 Near Car made by the same folks that made Near Beer I'd wager. It was horrible constantly in the shop and the mechs never could figure out what the problem was. They would hook up all their gizmotrons to it and never found anything but when you drove it the engine would just die. Nothing clogging lines. No electrical problems but the engine still died. I'll never buy another Mazda car again. I got 500 miles per gallon since it was not designed to go past a driveway.

I only do real cars now like Chevy they are built to last and run very well and when a repair is needed they can find the problem and fix it and it doesnt cost an arm & leg. Never had a problem with the Chevy.

Grimtooth...

495 it's not just a beltway number anymore...

Yeah they've finally adjusted them. This isn't the first time that Mazda has underrated their cars. The Miata was supposed to have a larger than shown hp curve, but NOPE! I'll stick with my Mitsubishi & just annhilate the new competition.

You rock Pixie:yay:

Been getting flyers and offers to test the RX-8 but since Koons Mazda is the closet dealer, I've declined. Got an internet cupon to test the Protege 5 there and it took me 3 hours to get out of the show room. Fell for the old "Give us your keys so the used car manager can evaluate your trade in" and then they wouldn't give them back till I got nasty.

The MAzda Rx 8,Sweet car but do not sell the Rx 7 short.I happen to own a 1980 mazda Rx 7 and it still runs fine, doesnt smoke, and still has plenty of go.The problem mainly stems from lack of Maint.

Rotory engines have less moving parts by far than the normal gas engine, but it requires TLC . Oil changes, plugs, filters are a must do requirement.Same old story? Well it pays off on all vehicles.Unfortanatly RX 7's Are a thrill to drive,They are fast compact cars. Most of the time they are just driven hard, fast. No car can stand up to constant abuse.

As far as Automatic,(Mine is) On the days that I feel frisky from a dead start letting the trans do it thing, it will not even shift into drive till it reaches 80.Though they are not low end cars 80 comes pretty quick. After that your just getting started.

So I to would like to think that I will get to sit in the new breed of RX's in the near Future.Good luck with the thought or the reality of drivinr the new RX 8

Unless you're clicking off 13's or lower, I will! :) I've beaten most of these cars on my LOW boost setting. Nice looking cars, just can't touch a turbo!

Well I'd like to see this. Other than PFS sponsered rides, I've yet to see a decent turbo IS. My boy uses one as his daily driver when his sup dawg is down. We'll have to run em after I get my new head installed. After that 25psi here I come!

Hello everyone,
Did not mean to stir the pot, just a reply to someone question.

Though I would not race my Rx,I do like to play.I still believe in letting the tradional V-8 perform at the track.Smaller engines have been turning on in this economy stage of the game. Some have even been very nicely tricked out.

I will let pixie, and Broke90 proceed with there Battle,Please continue.:

Someone else around here with an IS? I'm the only one I know of around here that has one. I've seen another here or there but never more then once.

Peter F isn't the only place around to put a turbo on an IS. SRT swift racing tech) in Rockville specializes in Lexus.

I was just messing with you I don't have a turbo on mine. But I've seen a PFS IS 300 that ran 9's.....

I can't find specs on a 90 GSX; the earliest model I can get them for is a 92. They only have 180 hp. I had 215 stock.
