At approximately 8:52 p.m., emergency first responders and police responded to the area of 27671 Three Notch Rd. for a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in the northbound lanes. According to dispatch documents the 911 caller initially did not know whether or not the vehicle had struck an animal or a person.

When emergency crews arrived they discovered a pedestrian had been struck and that the victim was not breathing. The pedestrian victim was pronounced dead on the scene. More details to follow as they are released by authorities. No other information is available at this time.

On Monday, November 30, at approximately 8:52 p.m., Troopers from the Leonardtown Barrack responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian on northbound MD Route 235, south of Valley Wood Court in Mechanicsville.

Upon arrival, a single male victim was located in the median. Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and attempted life saving measures, but the victim succumbed to his injuries on the scene. Members of the Maryland State Police Collision Reconstruction Team responded to assist in the investigation.
Initial investigation revealed the victim, a black male identified as James Thomas Yorkshire, 85 of Mechanicsville, was walking in, or crossing the roadway. He was struck by a vehicle that was operating northbound on MD Route 235. The accident occurred during hours of darkness, during light drizzle and Yorkshire was wearing dark clothing. There is no evidence to indicate that alcohol, drugs or excessive speed were factors in this accident. The cause of the accident is still under investigation by Trooper Pitcher of the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack.

That's awful. Wonder why the poor soul was out at night? Dementia or something maybe?

It's right across from that WaWa if I'm not mistaken. He probably lived in the subdivision on the NB side of 235 and walked across to get some items.

It should also be noted that the man had his leg taken off by the impact, and the rest of his body was deformed.

It does seem strange that somebody that age would be out walking.

I drive to work between 3:40-5am every day and there is atleast one person walking along Rt 4 wearing dark clothing. And then you've got the guy right before you get to the Beltway with his Bible high above his head as he's walking along the median.
