RSI Rapid Sequence Induction (intubation)- refers to the sedation and paralysis of patient prior to an intubation procedure. Usually performed by the helo-medic prior to transport. Good for combative/head injury patients. I've witnessed it being performed a few times...pretty cool!

Should also be noted that RSI can only be done by Paramedics. The decision was made by Medic 3 on the scene due to the patients deterioating condition.

I have had this procedure performed on me when I had my first seizure. When I came to, though, I was choking and all I can remember is a nurse who; at the time; seemed to me to be almost yelling at me to cough; "Mr. ******* you have to cough!" "You have to take a breath and cough," she was saying rather loudly, it seemed. When I was coherent enough......well, you get it.....

"Rapid Sequence Induction".....say THAT three times fast out loud.

Sincerely though.....thoughts and prayers to the patient and family.
