For me, a "dopey" comedy is any film that is tasteless, rude, offensive, and funny as hell.
I would put Animal House at the top of the list. Caddyshack is good too, but I don't think it has aged as well. Used Cars and and National Lampoon's Vacation (the first one) are good, but tend to drag toward the end. I think these films may have influenced the people behind American Pie and Old School. I can't watch many of Adam Sandler's films because he gets on my nerves.
The ZAZ comedies like Airplane and Hot Shots belong in their own special category, because they're silly rather than outrageously crude. "Billy, do you like gladiator movies?"
