we are looking for somewhere to do a horse riding lesson for a 5 year old. Called one place but they said they won't do just a single lesson and they don't offer packages this time of year.

The child won't get much out of a single lesson, other than a pony ride.
If in St. Mary's try A Moment in Time A Moment In Time they have very good programs for children, not sure about a single lesson though.
Post this under horse forum under pets/animals with your location and you will get more responses.
