New Preliminary Analysis Agrees - Global Temperatures Are Going Up - Hit & Run : Reason Magazine

"The Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature project was put together in the wake of the Climategate blowup in 2009. Led by University of California Berkeley physicist Richard Muller and advised by Georgia Tech climatologist Judith Curry, the the BEST project is examining various surface temperature records with the aim of resolving ...

...current criticism of the former temperature analyses, and to prepare an open record that will allow rapid response to further criticism or suggestions. Our results will include not only our best estimate for the global temperature change, but estimates of the uncertainties in the record.

The BEST project is using over 39,000 unique stations, which is more than five times the 7,280 stations found in the Global Historical Climatology Network Monthly data set (GHCN-M) that has served as the focus of many climate studies.

In Congressional testimony last week, Muller released some initial findings:"

Of course it is, the sun is back into its active cycle again (solar cycle 24), but it is predicted to be one of the least active cycles in a while. Climate scientists are prediciting that because of this and the next minimum starting in 2014 being extremely inactive that we will see a drastic decline in temperatures.

Temperatures go up..temperatures go down. Since that has been happening since the dawn of time, I could give a flying fawk, although I do prefer the 'up' trend, given a choice. :howdy:

Its a fact that the coldest places on the planet are also among the dryest & that the Ice Age helped cause the formation of the Sahara Desert.

Cold is not better - warmer temps bring longer growing seasons and -for most of the planet - more rain. Warmer temps don't necessarily a desert make. Most deserts are formed because of wind patterns or mountains blocking weather patterns. The human interference causes isn't because of pollution, it's deforestation and over grazing/soil depletion that pushes the environment over the edge.

Science is a terrible thing to waste.

Methodically disorganized
This has all the markers of a trustworthy study...

  • It's "preliminary" but already being taken as gospel
  • It's from Berkeley, which has a reputation of being completely philosophically balanced
  • The acronym spells "BEST"... therefore, it must be!
