Does your child love the water? Do they enjoy spending time outdoors? If so, From the Headwaters to the Estuary: Chesapeake Bay Watershed Discovery Camp might be the perfect fit!

Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum is hosting this 4H summer camp from July 18 – July 22, 9 AM – 4 PM. The camp is open to any child age 8-12 (4H registration is not required).

The fee for the program is $150, and the deadline to register is June 17, 2011. Applications can be found online at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum -Maryland State Museum of Archaeology, along with the registration form, interested participants are asked to submit a one page essay explaining what they hope to learn about the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed by attending the camp.

This is an outdoor hands-on camp, where participants will take on the role of an environmental scientist. Campers will learn all about our water, our land and our living resources, participate in hands-on research-based activities, and visit a variety of different habitats from freshwater streams to our great Patuxent River.

This outdoor, wet, and dirty camp will be instructed by: Jackie Takacs, Maryland Sea Grant Extension; Julie Walter, Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum; Elaine Bailey, Calvert County 4-H; and Herb Reed, Calvert County Extension.

Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum, a state museum of archaeology and home to the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory, is a program of the Maryland Historical Trust, a division of the Maryland Department of Planning. It is located on 560 scenic acres along the Patuxent River and the St. Leonard Creek in St. Leonard, Calvert County, Maryland.
