Summer Lunch Program for Children

Charles County Public Schools, in partnership with other county agencies, is offering a summer lunch program from June 27 to Aug. 19. The program is free for children and provided by multiple Charles County agencies and organizations, and through the Federal Meals program. Lunches are served Monday through Friday and times and locations vary.

The following sites are participating in the program at the times listed:

Henry E. Lackey High School, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.;
Benjamin Stoddert Middle School, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and
Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Elementary School, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Lunches will be offered at the following sites from June 27 through August 5:

William B. Wade Elementary School, 10:45 a.m.;
Mattawoman Middle School, 11 a.m.;
La Plata High School, 11:30 a.m. -12 p.m.;
Matthew Henson Middle School, 12 -12:30 p.m.; and
Milton M. Somers Middle School, 1 p.m.

Additionally, the program will be offered at the following sites:

Lighthouse Baptist Church, 11:20 a.m.;
Lancaster Community Center, 11:30 a.m.;
Oak Grove Baptist Church, 11:30 a.m.;
Huntington Community Center, 11:45 a.m.;
Elite Gymnastics, 12 p.m.;
Trinity Baptist Church, 12:20 p.m.;
Zion Baptist Church, 12:30 p.m.;
New Community COGIC Annex, 12:45 p.m.;
Bannister Community Center, 1 p.m. and
Phoenix Run Partnership Office, 1:15 p.m.

Any child between the ages of three and 18 is eligible to receive a lunch at one of the sites. Lunches are prepared by the Charles County Public Schools Food Services department and may consist of a sandwich, fruit, vegetable and milk, and will vary each day of the week.

Children receiving lunches at the school sites will be served along with those participating in summer camps through Charles County Parks and Recreation. These sites are staffed by Parks and Recreation, and LifeStyles Inc. of Maryland is providing volunteers and program support at several locations.

Limited Van Go passes for transportation to and from camp locations are available. Call 301-934-7383 or 301-609-9900 to obtain a pass.

Homeless children, identified by Charles County Public Schools and the Department of Social Services, who are 12-years-old and older and are a CCPS student, are eligible to receive free pool passes.
