Proposed Microsoft Office 2010 textbooks are on display

New textbooks proposed for the 2011-2012 school year are on display at the Jesse L. Starkey Administration Building in La Plata and several county high schools.

New textbooks on Office 2010 are needed to update business education courses. Staff has asked the Board of Education to approve two new books for use at the high schools in Computer Applications and Concepts and Advanced Computer Applications, Integration and Development classes. Books are for use in two courses: Computer Application and Concepts and Advanced Computer Applications, Integration, and Development. The school system is upgrading from Office 2003 to Office 2010 in these classes, and new textbooks are needed due to the significant changes in the software, said Judy Estep, assistant superintendent of instruction.

Proposed textbooks are Microsoft Office 2010-Word and Microsoft Office 2010-Excel, written by Timothy and Linda O’Leary and published by McGraw Hill. The textbooks are on display at Henry E. Lackey High School, Westlake High School and the Starkey Building on the second floor.

The Board of Education is reviewing the books and will take action on the books at the Sept. 13 meeting. Community members are encouraged to review the books and provide comment in writing to the Board of Education, P.O. Box 2770, La Plata, MD 20646; through e-mail to boardmail(at)ccboe.com; or in person at the Public Forum on Sept. 13, 6 p.m., at the Starkey Building.
