The Promise Resource Center and The United Way of Calvert County will host a Free Family Fun Fest for families with children five and under at St. Leonard Elementary School

The Promise Resource Center announced today that, in partnership with The United Way of Calvert County, it will be hosting the second Family Fun Fest of 2011 at St. Leonard Elementary School. The Fun Fest will be held on September 24th, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm; all Calvert County families with children five and under are invited to attend for free. According to Executive Director, Siobhan Ponder, the Fun Fest will build on the success of previous Fun Fests to provide parents, grandparents, and other caregivers with concrete early learning tools to help prepare their children for success in school.

The Fun Fest will feature games, activities, entertainment and exhibits for young children and their families. Wild Willy Woo Woo and Mad Science of Southern Maryland will provide interactive shows for children and their families. Children will also have a chance to touch and learn about lizards, snakes, turtles and other reptiles with Mr. Tom and his live animal exhibit. Children will have the opportunity to visit Science, Math, Reading, Social Studies, and Physical Development rooms to play early learning games, create Spin-Art, and take home toys they make themselves. Families with infants will create sturdy board books and more in a special "Baby Games" room. Families are invited to play together and to learn about school readiness programs and resources in Calvert County.

All attending families will receive a free Chick-fil-A gift card, a free Dunkin Donuts gift card, and a free entrance pass to the Calvert Marine Museum; each child will receive a free book and take-home activity kits. Door prizes and additional giveaways for the whole family will be awarded throughout the day. Free snacks, drinks and pizza will be served throughout the day to all who attend.

Partners and vendors will be on site with children's toys, books, and educational games for families and child care programs. Local businesses and organizations who are interested in attending to share information with families are invited to call The Promise Resource Center at (301) 290-0040 to reserve a booth. Individuals or organizations interested in volunteering for the event can sign up by calling The Promise Resource Center at (301) 290-0040.

About The Promise Resource Center

The Promise Resource Center (formerly Southern Maryland Child Care Resource Center) was founded on the belief that we as adults make a promise of sorts - to provide the children we care for with the tools they need to be successful. With 30 years of service to Southern Maryland, we have long been the leading provider of training, resources and support for those who care for children in the tri-county area (Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's). Specifically, we provide an array of resources to support parents, grandparents, foster parents and licensed family and center child care providers. Our core purpose is to help provide a brighter future for children by educating and supporting their caregivers.
