The St. Mary’s County Public Schools’ (SMCPS) Partners for Success Resource Center for Families and Schools is offering a workshop for parents and teachers of children with learning disabilities called Executive Functioning and How it Affects Your Child Everyday. Executive functions are defined as the cognitive skills that help us manage our lives and be successful. Children with weak executive skills, despite their best intentions, often do their homework, but forget to turn it in; wait until the last minute to start a project; lose books, assignments and important papers; have messy rooms! The good news is that parents and teachers can do a lot to support and train their children to manage these frustrating and stressful weaknesses.

Executive Functioning and How it Affects Your Child Everyday will be offered on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Board of Education Meeting Room, 23160 Moakley Street, Leonardtown, MD 20650. SMCPS Instructional Resource Teachers, Stacey Deckard and Lisa Dean, will present this workshop. To register, please contact Susan Shannon at 301-863-4069 or email partnersforsuccess(at)smcps.org.
