Maybe she thought that the developers of the injection are really prohibitionist blue-nosed puritans who become apopletic at the thought of people getting drunk. Just a theory.

Anyway, I've read claims that alcoholism is genetic, meaning that some people may have a genetic predisposition to become addicted to alcohol. I suspect that may be true for some alcoholics, while other alcoholics use the stuff to avoid dealing with emotional pain.
