Sedation Dentistry

Anyone had it done? I go in on Wednesday. I'd be interested in hearing how it went if anyone else has gone that route.

Never had it done, but I'd like to. My neighbor is a dentist, and I've talked to him about it ... even offered him a large sum of cash to knock me out so he can knock out all my dental needs in one shot while I nap.

Unfortunately, he don't do dat. :frown:

Are you having IV sedation or just pill sedation? I had pill sedation last year with Dr. Cieplak in La Plata. Was tired of having to go from one "specialist" to another and wanted everything done at the same time while I was asleep. The pill sedation doesn't knock you out completely, but you DO NOT REMEMBER the experience. Highly recommend it. Good luck!

I'm doing the pill sedation. My only concern is that even though I won't remember it, I'll still feel it during the procedure. I'm fine with the shots and drilling, but what I for some reason have a hard time handling, is the scraping. :twitch: They're doing a heavy duty cleaning while I'm knocked out since I don't do so well with it when I'm awake.

Had a wisdom tooth removed, and had the choice. I was told I wouldn't fell anything, but would hear it.

I went all the way under baby. Wake-up and it's done :yay:

Had to have someone dry me home, and found out later my insurance didn't cover going completely under. No matter, it was worth it.

Good Luck

The only time I've been under for dental work was after the accident, and that was surgery. I think it was just a pill....been a while.

Christy -- I have the same issues with the scraping and drilling noises. :fingernailsonchalkboard: :yikes: When I had a root canal a couple years ago, I took a cd player in with me and that really drowned out the noise, which after all the novacaine I had, solved most of my problem. :yay:

If you have an Ipod or something, take it with you, just in case.

I get serious goose bumps and the fear of God look on my face whenever they start scraping. I think I scare them. I'm going with the sedation, that way I can get everything done all at once, rather than a bunch of different appointments.

Plus, I want to feel what it's like to be a pill popper.

What?!
Had it done Tuesday. It kicks ass! :yay: They gave me valium to take the night before (That's some wild stuff ) and the sedation pill to bring with me to the office. Got to the office, I put the sedation pill under my tongue, they put the gas mask on me. They went to work and I was sipping a mai tai in lala land! :lmao: I remember bits and pieces, but don't remember hearing the drill  I'd highly recommend it for any one that has a hard time at the dentist!

St. Mary's Dental does it too and they are da bomb. I actually felt so comfortable with them that I didn't need the sedation:yay::yay:

When I say I remember bits and pieces, I remember the dentist asking me to open wider and bite down. I remember absolutely nothing of the work, shots of novocain, drilling, none of the skeery stuff
