So how's he doing in NASCAR so far? I hear he's replacing Casey Mears in the #42. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I don't follow NASCAR much.

No correction required. He finished 3rd I believe in his first Arca race. Got caught up in a wreck in his second. Guess he's doing okay.

Cool, I liked him when he drove for McLaren-Mercedes in F1 and wanna still follow him. His replacement, Pedro De La Rosa, has been a little lackluster so far, and Kimi has had a bad season.

I'm losing interest in NASCAR with the addition of Toyota and foreign drivers.

Check out WRC (World Rally Cup) They're racing stock* cars on dirt/gravel courses and there ain't no rain delays.

*They have to meet a 500 production number to meet homologation rules. Just like NASCAR used to do.

Why?
I appreciate all makes and models of race cars. I think that it makes racing more interesting if a Vette is put up against a Aston Martin, or a Ferrari against a Ford. Also, why not have a U.S. driver race against a foreign driver. This adds to the rivalry.
I love to cheer on Scott Speed as an American racer in F1.

NASCAR was traditionally good ole southern boys racing Fords, Chevys and Dodges. They got rid of the Fords, Chevys and Dodges and now they're phasing out the good ole boys.

I recently saw a comparison between a Ford Mustang and a Toyota Sienna's components from the U.S. or Canada:
Mustang - 65% Sienna - 90%
At least Toyota is outsourcing to the US.

But wait, there's more...
While I can appreciate the "old school" appeal of it being only American made cars in Nascar, I don't see the big deal with Toyota coming onboard.

In anything, change is inevitable. I wasn't keen about the chase for the cup at first (and still have some issues with how points are awarded for wins), but let's face it, it's produced some pretty exciting end-of-season finishes. Now, instead of knowing two races from the end of the year who's gonna win the cup, it's literally down to the last lap of the last race.

Toyota coming on board just means more teams, more competition, which inevitably means ... more excitement. If Toyota's racing means you're gonna throw a hissy fit :tantrum and not watch any more, it's all good ... free's up a seat at the track for me!

Honda is the biggest US exporter of cars to Japan

:yeahthat: I hope the Busch Series goes to a Chase Format too. I like following the Busch League, but when Kevin Harvick wins the title with - what? 3 races to go? - with a lead of about 700 points - where's the excitement in that?

Save a seat for me Crabcake!

The thing is NASCAR is trying to make this an international sports, adding races to Canada and Mexico (the Mexico race thing really pisses me off), and is trying to get as many diverse foriegn drivers as they can. NASCAR's playing a big role behind the scenes in the Juan Pablo Montoya deal mainly because there's lots of money to be made in his success.

True. When they stopped using stock cars they shifted the focus onto the drivers and kept up interest in their competition instead of the traditional Ford/Chevy/Dodge manufacturer competition. I think that if their core fan base can't pronounce the driver's names after drinking a 6 pack, it's going to hurt NASCAR's popularity.

...and what guy in his right mind is going to wear a ball cap or T-shirt with VIAGRA across the front?

Like the 6-pack matters when they're missing two-thirds of their grill. :duh:

I don't think Juan Pablo Montoya will do that good in Nextel Cup. Plenty of guys have had success in ARCA and not done well in NASCAR: Frank Kimmell (the undisputed king of NASCAR) and Stuart Kirby off the top of my head. Although, I'm not gonna take much away from Stuart he could've done well if he weren't with these ####ty ass teams.

Montoya has had success in F1 and in Indy cars. He won the Indy 500 and a few F1 races. He is a talented race car driver that will do just fine in NASCAR .

How and when did Frank Kimmell who hasn't made it past ARCA become "(the undisputed king of NASCAR)"???? :killingme
