Don't think BSL could ever affect you?

This is a case of Stupid Pet Laws -

If you support BSL and "think" it would never apply to owners of Labs, Yorkies, Poodles, designer mutts, or any type of non-dangerous dog - you need to re-examine the moves sweeping the country.

Louisville, Kentucky deserves the medal for "Stupidest Dog Laws" - Read Anti-Pet Ordinance
Just passed new laws - Notice it doesn't specify breed, but it does specify altered, no mention on size of dogs either. There's a lot of reading here, but there is a link that will take you to the "highlights" of this bill.

So you can only have 3 dogs on a .5 acre lot, could be 3 "mini" size dogs, or 3 extra large breed - BUT it's also not grandfathered, so IF you have 4 dogs today, well, one has to go...

IF your dog gets loose and somehow winds up in animal controls care - the animal will be altered before it's returned... So you show your animals, and of course you can't show an altered dog - Too Bad...

You like electric fences? Not allowed if you have an unaltered dog.

How many people in St Mary's county actually license their dogs? Most of us probably don't, but in Louisville, KY, the vets are now required to turn over thier rabies vaccine records - you haven't licensed your dog? You're out of compliance.

If you support BSL, thinking it will only apply to the dangerous breeds (Rottweilers, Pits, Presa's etc...), you need to realize that by supporting BSL you are giving free reign for others to pass bills with agendas that will endanger everyone's right to own the pet of their choice. Or in the case of Louisville, KY - you are now presented with an "Anti-Pet" ordinance.

You register a Car why not Register a dog?

If a dog is registered and it hurts or kills someone then they will be able to check the registration for the owner

Registering dogs will help cut down on crime

Registering dogs will keep them out of the hands of mentally ill people

:sarcasm:

oh D@mn Breeders

You may be being sarcastic, but I don't have a problem w/licensing a dog, in fact in St Mary's county it's the law... BUT how many people do you know that actually do license their dogs? In fact most of the people I know that are FROM this county didn't realize they were supposed to...

4) Vets are required to turn over their rabies shot records to LMAS so that dogs which got a rabies vax but not a license can be impounded.. They are also required to notify their clients of the provisions of this 94+ page ordinance.
