Baby avoids serious injury after fall from moving car

Parents drove on without noticing

A Pittsfield Township couple didn't notice their baby had tumbled, strapped to his child seat, from their car when a door swung open as they rounded a turn last week, police say. The parents drove to a nearby Home Depot store before they realized the infant was gone, officers said.

The 11-month-old boy was treated at the University of Michigan Medical Center, but did not appear to be seriously injured, police said.

Two paramedics in a Huron Valley Ambulance were behind the white Dodge Shadow as it turned southbound onto Carpenter Road from Packard Road last Thursday, police said. The paramedics saw the rear driver's side door swing open, and the infant fall to the pavement, police said.

The paramedics blocked traffic and tended to the infant, as the car continued on Carpenter Road, reports said. The parents returned a short time later, reports said. The father, 26, told police the baby was fastened and buckled in the car seat, and the door was locked, reports said. Police did not find any problems with the seat belts or locks.

Police said the case will be turned over to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office for possible child endangerment charges against the parents.

How do you drive all the way to the store (even if it's 5-min. away) w/o peeking in the backseat to check on the baby at least once?

1. Ghetto parents fighting

2. Driving like a lunatic

I used to have a ’93 Shadow and the back doors have child locks; obviously, these imbeciles were not using them.

Hey, a Dodge Shadow is cool compared to a Plymouth Horizon. Yes, I drove one of those.
