Photoshop!

So I was looking around at some of my hard drives last night and I realized I had Photoshop CS on one of them. So I installed it. Figuring I knew enough about computers and programs I could figure it out, I dove right in.

Boy was I wrong. I found a few websites and followed some instructions they had given, but nothing that was really all that helpful.

Anyways, after I was done doing a few tutorials, I set out to see what I had learned. I knew I needed to start with an easy to manipulate picture, so I chose one of my friends avatars from another forum. I then used a picture of her character in World of Warcraft and did a ghosting effect to it. Then I threw in her name and added some "fire" to the text. Anyways...here is what I ended up with:

I know its not all that impressive, but for less than three hours of opening it, I was happy!

Do any of yall know of any good beginner websites for photoshop?

So apparently I don't know how to post pictures.

The manual that comes with photoshop is very indepth. If you can't get your hands on the manual...

My daughter has photoshop on her laptop, I keep the manuals at home, so I bought her one of these to keep with her at school.

That would be it! Thanks!

nacho - Hmm I don't have the manuals...to be quite honest I don't even remember buying it. It must have come as packaged with something else I bought....video card maybe?

Anyways, I'll try out your suggestion!

It's an awesome program. You can do a lot with it, if you have the time to sit down and learn how to do everything that can be done. :lmao:

After you get that program down then you can pick up an animator to really kick it up a notch!

Thanks! I'll probablyhold off on that though...I just bought Sony Vegas (possible Vega....can't remember) which is a video editting tool. Maybe it can do that!

I started looking into all of this stuff because I am working on MY first website...starting from complete scratch. I have made them in the past....or updated rather...but without crisp and interesting graphics, it looked really plain and boring!

 I wish I could "find" software like that.

I will recommend the one I used for class: Real World Adobe Photoshop CS2.

I doubt anyone utilizes all of PS's powers... and considering it would take months or years to master it all, I doubt you would want to try unless doing so was necessary.

Your original graphic was cool - although I didn't get the inclusion of the robot guy.

Thanks for the link...do you think with me having CS as opposed to CS2 I will be at a disadvantage with that book?

The original picture - the girl (the huge girls face) was an avatar used by a good friend of mine on a gaming forum I am a huge part of. The "robot" is a very high and impressively geared character in the game the website is about (world of warcraft) and is her character and Tasharin (the text) is her name in game.

Oh... apparently I read "CS" and it clicked as "CS2".

I don't know the difference between them. So I did a little searching and... there does not seem to be much difference. CS2 did make improvements to its RAW functions, but I guess general image manipulation did not get altered much from one to the next.

I read the backstory before... and, as you can tell, I am not a WoW follower.

So....what your saying is the number of CS boxes had fallen into a slump, so Adobe added one line of code to the program and resell it for $400?

Excellent!
