Heard a round-a-bout story that the commissioners have refused to extend the lease for the Prince Frederick market (Former A&P Store). Venders have to go...
I went looking for a link to discount or verify this: haven't found it yet:

Who has the scoop on our unique, accessible, friendly, economical
CCCMarket???

There have been several articles in the Recorder...and I think there was one in the SOMD Extra this weekend...let me look.

Yes they do have to move, many are looking for other areas to rent, but the overhead at other venues will probably eliminate several from continuing.

Michael Cox has built a trailer, complete with a refrigerator to keep his eggs in, and will be set up in the parking lot this summer with his home grown produce.

spell out the situation pretty clearly: taxpayers have picked up almost $1,000,000 since it opened 5 years ago.

However much I like the market: it really must strive to break even. The problem is that shoppers are not likely to drop 20-50.00 on every visit.

So: Where is the enterprising Farmer who can rennovate his barns to accomodate 10-15 venders?...and have good publicity on a major artery?

I am hoping that government bureaucracy would not choke off some initiative but I can picture pencil pushers and inspectors on the public dime making life more difficult for the entrepreneurs.

Next question: how long will the old A&P sit empty?
The only thing I can picture going in is an Odd Lot store or some silent-as-a-tomb furniture outlet.

That entire center has had problems...and the rent is very hight for the vendors at the market.

I go in and find it hard to spend a lot of money there.. Used to by bread from Bunnys ..good bread..and I buy pottery fom another guy who also sells produce..but not a lot there to by.
And the nice little sandwish bar left a long time ago. They had Sunday breakfast we went to after church.
Sigh...another shopping center dies away...
